Look to the Word...Not natural facts

"So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived."-- Numbers 21:9

"Pastor, I know that God is my healer.  But why is this sickness and pain still in my body?"  If you have been looking at your sickness and pain all this while, stop looking at yourself and start looking at Jesus.  Did He or did He not take upon Himself your sickness and pain?

God's Word declares, "Surely our sicknesses he has borne, and our pains -- he has carried them..." (Isaiah 53:4)  Since Jesus has already taken your sickness and pain at the cross, then He cannot "untake" them.  Even if you find it hard to believe that Jesus has paid for your healing, especially when the pain is unbearable, the truth is that it is still paid for.  It is finished work!

God is not saying that your sickness does not exist, nor is He asking you to pretend that it is not there.  He is asking you to look away from the sickness, painful as it may be, and look to the truth that it has already been judged at the cross in the body of His Son.

Once, while still in the wilderness, the children of Israel were bitten by deadly desert serpents.  The serpents were real.  The bites were painful and deadly.  So God told Moses to point the people to the bronze serpent put on a pole -- a picture of the cross.  (John 3:14)  Bronze signifies judgment.  In other words, the serpent -- their problem -- was already judged at the cross.

Those who kept their eyes on the bronze serpent lived.  Those who focused on their wounds died.  So stop looking at your sickness.  Instead, look to the cross and see your sickness already judged in the body of Jesus.  Surely He has borne your sicknesses and carried your pains!  That is the truth of God's Word...And His Word supersedes natrual facts.

My friend, you let natural facts rule or establish God's truths over your problem by what you choose to focus on.  So decide today not to fucus on the facts concerning your problem.  Instead, establish the truth of God's Word and Christ's finished work over your problem -- and live!

Today's Bread Is Not For Tomorrow

"Give us this day our daily bread."-- Matthew 6:11

Doctors have discovered that worry, stress fear and anxiety can cause stomach ulcers, high blood pressure and other health problems.  The Bible says that a merry heart does good like medicine, but a broken spiritdires the bones. (Proverbs 17:22)  It also says that God wants us to prosper and be in health, even as our soul prospers. (3 John 1:2)

When I first started preaching, I used to worry aboutmy sermons weeks before I even preached them!  I would get stressed that sometimes, I developed symptoms in my body ...headaches...stomach aches...not to mention irritability and even a foul mood...imagin that...how can I be sharing the Word of God and be in a foul mood!  I believe that the devil was trying to undermine my ministry and distract me.

But praise God, He delivered and healed me, and taught me not to worry.  Today, I have a peace and have learned by the grace of God not to worry.  The verse that set me free was this: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow..." (Matthew 6:34)  You see, if you worry about tomorrow, you are trying to live tomorrow today!  I found out...it can't be done!

Friends, God does not want you to do that.  Jesus taught us to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread."  He did not say, "Give us this day our weekly brad."  God gives us daily bread, not weekly bread.  God doesn't give tomorrow's bread today.  And today's bread is not meant for tomorrow!

This means that God wants you to live today and not worry about what will happen or what you have to do tomorrow. He gives you sufficient grace for today, not tomorrow.

"But Pastor Erwin, I have a very important presentation to give tomorrow!"

Beloved, when tomorrow comes, the bread - provisions and grace - will be there.  I am not advocating laziness and inactivity.  By all means, do your homework, but don't worry about it.  Just trust the One who wants you to give Him all your cares (1 Peter 5:7), and enjoy His peace and life today!  Just let go...and Let God!!!

Be Anxious For Nothing

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."-- Philippians 4:6-7

When faced with a challenge or crisis, our tendency is to get all anxious about it.  But God does not want us to react this way.  He does not want us to be anxiious about anything.  Instead, whatever the problem is, He wants us to go to Him for the answer.  When we do that, His peace, which surpasses all understa nding, will guard our hearts and minds from all worries, anxieties and fears.

"Pastor Erwin, that's easy for you to say, "Be anxious for nothing.'  Try living with my husband for one day.  Try disciplining that wayward teenager of mind.  Look at the balance in my bank account!  How can I not be anxious?"

Wait a minute...I am not the one who said, "Be anxious for nothing."  The apostle Paul said it.  Actuallly, it was not him--he was prompted by the Holy Spirit. And when Paul wrote that, he was a prisoner under house arrest in Rome.  (Acts 28:16-20)

Yet, under those trying conditions, he wrote these words: 'Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."

Friends, if you are anxious or worried about something, remember Paul's words.  Let's say that you are anxious about a huge debt.  God to the Lord and pray, "Lord Jesus, I no longer want to be anxious about this problem.  I hand it over to You and ask for supernatural cancellation of this debt.  It is in Your care now.  You are in charge.  I thank You for taking care of it."

God is true to His Word.  As you pray this prayer and cast your care upon Jesus, you will find His peace setting your heart and mind at rest.  So be anxious for nothing--let the One with whoum nothing is impossible take care of it for you!  Trust Jesus...trust in the faith that God gives you to believe...only believe!

Jesus Overpaid Our Debt!

"But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God."-- Hebrews 10:12

Do you know that we once owed God a huge debt?  No, it was not a money debt, it was a sin debt.  We owed God a sin debt which we could never pay.  But God so loved us that He came up with a plan to pay the debt-- He gave us His Son to die on the cross for our sins.  Jesus Christ was without sin.  So when He went to the cross as punishment ofr our sins, He paid for us a debt He did not owe.

My friends, the reality is that our sin debt has been more than paid in full.  In fact, Jesus overpaid it!  Jesus' sacrifice was an overpayment because it was not just a good man, revered for his saintly qualities and good character who died for us.  It was the Son of the living God, the Creator of the universe, the perfect Man, who died for us!

Because Jesus is God, His sacrifice is greater than the sacrifices of all good men -- past, present and future -- put together.  His sacrifice avails for all who lived in the past, all who are currently alive and all who will live in the future.  And His one sacrifice forever took away all our sins.

Jesus' sacrifice was also on overpayment because His blood is of far more value to God than the blood of bulls and goats used in the past to atone for the sins of the Israelites.  It is Through the Blood of Jesus, which is the blood of God Himself, not of animals.  Because His blood is eternal, His blood cleanses us forever, so we ahve eternal forgiveness!

My friends, the next time you are mindful of a bad deed, remember that Jesus, your sacrifice for sins, not only paid 100 per cent for your sin, but His sacrifice was also an overpayment.  You can therefore truly and completely rest in the presence of God, knowing that He is fully satisfied and completely at rest concerning you.  He is not going to find some sin you had committed that Jesus' blood failed to cover.

Beloved, God can righteously give you His blessings and you can expect to receive them because Jesus overpaid your debt!  What a GOOD GOD we serve!

Moved By The Holy Spirit, Not Human Honey

Leviticus 2:11

"No grain offering which you bring to the Lord shall be made with leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey in any offering to the Lord made by fire."

Imagine yourself walking past the prodigal son sitting in the pigpen.  (Luke 15:11-24)  You look at him and see him salivating for the pigs' food.  Believing that it is good to show kindness, you give him money to buy food for himself.

That is human kindness which says, "I am a Christian.  I should be kind, good and forgiving."  Such human sweetness or kindness may be likened to honey.  Interestingly, while we elevate it, God tells His people not to bring Him a grain offering with honey in it.

The grain offering speaks of Jesus' life on earth.  Not mixing honey in the grain offering speaks of how the compassion and goodness we see in Jesus during His earthly ministry were all divine.  There was no "honey" of human goodness that is tainted with human weakness.

In retrospect, the worst thing one could do for the prodigal son was to give him money when he was in the pigpen.  Not only would he not have gone home, but what the Lord was doing in his heart would also have been spoiled.  This is what happens when we go by the goodness of our human hearts instead of the goodness of God in our hearts, which is directed by His love, wisdom and perfect timing.

My friend, God does not want you to be moved by what you see but by His Mighty Holy Spirit.  There were many needy folks surrounding Jesus during His time on earth.. But He did not heal every sick person around Him, feed every hungry stomach he passed or raised all who were dead.  Isaiah 11:2-3 tells us that the Lord was not moved by what He saw or heard.  He was moved ony by the Spirit.

You too have the Holy Spirit in you.  (1 Corinthians 3:16)  Be moved by Him.  Follow the peace that He puts within your spirit to do or refrain from doing something.  That peace is the peace of God.  Acting on that peace will cause God to be exalted, and His divine goodness and kindness to really be a blessing to you and others!  Our focus is on God Almighty...Not anymore or anything else!

Getting Filled With All The Fullness Of God!

"to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."-- Ephesians 3:19

We would all like to experience more health, prosperity and success in our lives.  God, being God, has all  of these things, won't you agree?  So to be full of God is to be full of health, prosperity and success.  But how does one become full of God?

In the past, I was told that to be "filled with all the fullness of God", I had to fast a certain number of days, pray a certain number of hours and speak in tongues incessantly!  I am not belittling fasting, praying or speaking in tongues, but to be filled with all the fullness of God is not about what you do.  It is not even about your love for Christ.  It is actually about knowing the love of Christ!  No one ever told me that if I knew how much God loves me and focused on His love for me, I would be full of Him.

When God made you, he designed you to run at optimal level when you are filled with His love, like a car that runs at its best when it is filled with the right kind of fuel or gasoline.  When you realize how much God loves you and you feed on His love for you, you will supernaturally filled with the fullness of God.

And to be full of God is to be full of everything God is to you and has for you.  To be full of God is to come to a place of life, health, peace, prosperity -- total wellness.

Also, when you are conscious of how much God loves you and you become filled with the fullness of God, what follows is the next verse -- God doing exceedingly abundantly above all that you can ask or think, according to the power that works in you. (Ephesians 3:20)  You will experience the tremendous blessing of God exploding in your life!  You will become a blessing magnet!

So as God's beloved, continue to be nourished by His love for you, and experience more health, prosperiety and success in your life!  Don't live in lack and affliction...you and I serve a most-loving God...and Jesus is Jehovah Jireh...Jehovah Rapha...Jehovah Nissi!

Jesus Wore The Crown Of Thorns For You

"And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head..."-- John 19:2

If hard work is the formula for prosperity, then everyone who works hard should be prosperous.  Bt this is certainly not the case.  Many people who work very hard are still poor!

I am not advocating laziness.  What I am saying is that working hard by the sweat of your brow is ot how God's prosperity comes.  In fact, if you have to work overtime all the time and are stressed out, you are probably operating under the curse.

What curse is that?  It is the curse: "In the sweat of your face, you shall eat bread..." (Genesis 3:19).  And it refers to the stress, struggle and anxieties that come with working hard an yet producing little.  Now, work itself is not a curse since God gave Adam work before the fall - Adam was to tend the garden of Eden.  It was only after he sinned that the land was cursed and it brought forth thorns, and man had to toil to eat of it.  (Genesis 3:17-18)

But praise God, Jesus wore the thorns of His head to show you that He has borne this curse for you and redeemed you from it.  he wore the crown of thorns so that you can work stress-free and yet have the results.  You don't have to be worried and stressed out day and night like people of the world just to get ahead in life.  Your heavenly Father can get you there without the worries and stress.  (Matthew 6:31-33)

Beloved, every curse that was supposed to fall on your head fell on Jesus' head typified by the crown of thorns.  He wore the crown of thorns for you so that you can have peace of mind.  He wore the crown of thorns for you and toook your curse so that you can wear the crown of glory and take His righteousness, and all the benefits of that righteosness!

Today, don't labor and toil like the people of the world.  Instead, expect to see the blessings of God come into your life without blood, sweat and tears because Jesus wore the crown of thorns for you!  So, don't sweat it!  Just do your part...with joy, gladness and with cheer...Giving thanks and praise to Jesus Christ!
